Viviana Torres Ballesteros
Viviana Torres Ballesteros graduated as an MD in 2014 from the Universidad Militar Nueva Granada in Bogotá in Colombia, and in 2021, she graduated as a Neurologist from the same university, where she was recognized as the best resident in the clinical area of her cohort. She pursued further specialization through a Master’s Degree in Advanced Medical Skills in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders at the University of Barcelona in Spain, under the guidance of Dr. Francesc Valldeoriola.
Expanding her expertise, she completed an observership program at the University of Miami Miller School, with the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders team, focusing in deep brain stimulation, under the guidance of Dr. Corneliu Luca and Dr. Ihtsham Haq.
Throughout her training, she actively contributed to clinical, teaching, and research activities, with a special emphasis on deep brain stimulation (DBS). Her roles included assisting patients with movement disorders, programming neurostimulators, and addressing associated clinical challenges. Proficient in postoperative imaging programs, she specializes in guided imaging programming.
During her academic journey, she participated in publishing academic papers, with her primary interests being impulse control disorders, the use of new programming paradigms, and emerging technologies in brain stimulation. She also attended numerous conferences and congresses in the field. In recognition of her contributions, she was honored with the Melvin Yahr Young Investigator Award by the International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders in 2023.
Currently, she is furthering her research through a fellowship at the University of Miami Health System in USA, aiming to expand her knowledge and contribute to both the research and clinical realms.
